Since WWII, the political status of Eritrea, and consequently its status in amateur radio, has changed several times.

The British were still administering Eritrea in March, 1952. The actual date that British administration ceased (between March and September) is not known. Club Log uses an end date of 1952-09-15 for mapping these prefixes to Eritrea, and a start date of 1948-03-01 for mapping MI3 prefixes. M0XBF advises: "According to Short Wave Mag in March 1939, page 28, none of the many Italian stations active were officially licensed. Presumably the same was true of the I6 operators in Eritrea".
