From 1945 - 1950, Amsterdam & St Paul Islands also counted as Kerguelen, but became a separate DXCC entity in 1951, with QSOs counting from 1945-11-15.

"DXCC Notes" in the April 1951 edition of QST states:

"In November 1950 we announced in QST that Amsterdam Island, FB8, would be grouped with Kerguelen Islands, FB8, on the Countries List. Since the time of that announcement, some additional facts have come to our attention, with the result that we have decided to group Amsterdam and St. Paul Island, both FB8, as a country separate from the Kerguelen Islands."

The IOTA reference for Amsterdam and St. Paul Islands  is AF-002.

The prefix for Amsterdam & St. Paul was FB8Z until FT#Z callsigns began to be issued in 1984, following a major re-organisation of the French callsign system.

Until 1973, personal callsigns were not issued to Amsterdam & St. Paul operators. All operators used the callsign FB8ZZ.

From 1973, personal callsigns were issued in the range FB8Z[A-Z], and when these were exhausted, from 1981 in the range  FB8ZA[A-D], until the prefix change to the FT#Z prefix in 1984.

The very first QSO made from Amsterdam & St. Paul Islands I was on 1950-03-25, by FB8ZZ (tnx F2VX, LNDX).
