Portuguese (Portugal, Madeira and Azores) callsign history

2009 changes

In 2009, Anacom, the Portuguese local regulatory agency for the amateur radio service, published new legislation.
The new legislation changed the allocation of CQ, CR & CS prefixes. In addition, no new callsigns will be issued with the CT1-4 or CU# prefixes.
These changes took effect from 2009-06-01.

Exceptions

CQ2EF, CR2EF & CS2EF were QRV from Azores during World Communication Year, 1983.

CU3BX was QRV from Madeira in October/November 1983.


Acknowledgements

DXNS #1191, dated 1985-10-29, which states:

"From 1 December, CT2 prefixes will be modified to indicate the individual island of residence: CU1 Santa Maria; CU2 Sao Miguel, CU3 Terceira, CU4 Graciosa, CU5 Sao George, CU6 Pico, CU7 Faial, CU8 Flores, CU9 Corvo".
