PayPal Account Restrictions

Modified on Sun, 23 Nov at 11:22 AM

If a PayPal account has been restricted, anyone trying to requests cards via Club Log OQRS from the owner of that account will see this PayPal error:
“Things don’t appear to be working at the moment. Please try again later.”
Other OQRS requests (to different stations) work fine.
Root Cause
PayPal may (without warning) choose to restrict an account from receiving commercial or hosted checkout payments. Even though there are no visible warnings in the PayPal account, the owner will be unable to:
  • receive Goods & Services payments
  • create invoices
  • update or re-verify their PayPal email address
This type of hidden restriction blocks PayPal “hosted button” transactions — including those generated by Club Log OQRS.
Resolution

Upgrading the PayPal account from a Personal account to a Business account immediately resolves the problem. After the upgrade, OQRS PayPal payments start working again without any changes needed in Club Log.
Many thanks to Kari, OH2XX for helpfully providing a complete explanation of this situation and its causes
